Japan's overtly materialistic and secular, modern culture has been punctuated by the appearance of strange cults and new age religious groups, and Takayama is host to one of them. This particular group claims to be the first to offer a "place where people of any belief could commune with the enshrined presence of the one Creator God" - something that I think Unitarians and Bahai'ists would take issue with!
