Chu Lai Marine Corps Base

I am going back there in April. I was stationed with 9th Eng 1st Marine Div 1968 to 1968 what is the town right outside the base like? Whats the best way to get there from Saigon? e mail me please if you can jfgugli@nc.rr.com

I was attached to the 3rd Marine Div for almost a year at Chu Lai from the fall of 1967 into 1968. I was with Co D, 40th Signal Bn, 1st Signal Bde. We were at the top of the hill just north of where Ammerical Div. was. I remember walking through this gate a few times.............

i was there in chulai in marine tank in 1967 and going back chulai this oct. any advise. any old buddy

I was stationed there in 69' 70' with the HHC 4/31 Americal Division off of LZ West. Was fortunate enough to return with a Fulbright-Hays group all of July 2010. I now have closure.

I was stationed with Marine Air Group 13 from Oct 69 to April 70. I was the armorer for the the unit that manned the southern Marine bunker line of Chu Lai. I went through that main gate several time on med cap patrols and searched for aiming stakes in the free fire zone out side the bunker line. The Army MPS hated to see us coming because we would be locking and loading before we got through the gate.

I was with FLSG-B, support group from Sept 1966 - Sept 1967. Really didn't get around the base much.
