I visited Ancon Beach this year 2010 in October. The beach and sand is nice but the ocean water in this area is awful. In the photos it looks like coral reef but really it is grass growing in the water. Not very attractive at all. Of course none of the ads tell you about this. Veradero blows this place away. What a dissapointment.

I loved the beach here, for the sunset. BUT 'sand fleas' also arrived around 5:00pm and bit my legs! I didn't realize what it was until reading the note in Lonely Planet after the fact.
