Greetings,

Would you mind informing me of the name of the venue where you rented this room? Was this the cheapest room that you could find? If not, then what was the price of the cheapest room that you came across? What did you like most/least about this venue? I intend to travel to Alexandria in mid January 2010 and will need to stay someplace for about one week prior to finding permanent accommodations. Thanks for your guidance.

Aidara
Hi Baidara,

The hotel we stayed in was called the New Capri. (Phone number 03-4809310, from within Egypt)

We were going to stay at either the Union Hotel, the Metropole Hotel, or the Windsor Palace Hotel, but they were all booked when we tried to reserve once we were in Cairo. Our hotel (the Juliana) owner in Cairo (Hany) recommended the New Capri and it was wonderful.

We had a double room with bathroom directly across the hall that was supposedly shared, but I don't remember anyone else ever using it. There are rooms with private bathrooms, but they were full at the time.

One thing we didn't like was that although this was a double room, it had 2 single beds. We realized after a while to ask for a "double room, big bed" to get an actual double bed, as this was my husband and I travelling together. We did peak inside another room while it was being cleaned and it had a proper double bed, so you can get one if this is important to you.

Also, like many hotels in Egypt it is in the upper floors of a building either housing commercial or residential accommodations. You either had to take a cramped elevator or the stairs which were poorly lit. We took both and were fine. I believe this hotel was on the 4th floor? ( I can't truly remember.)

The included breakfast was wonderful. A buffet style spread with eggs, beans, pastries etc. Definitely one of the better breakfast spreads we had in Egypt.

In the breakfast area there were two free internet computers. The view was lovely both from our room (pic you commented on) and from the breakfast area.

The hotel was also in a very safe location and there was a public street car just about a block away (you can see the tracks in the pic).

I don't remember the exact prices of other the other hotels we had intented to stay in, but they were more than what we paid at the New Capri. We did all our research on hotels on www.tripadvisor.com.

Enjoy Alexandria!!!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
Nadine and Steve
