Pulled us (among many others) over for passing on solid double yellow line (about 20 ft of it following a 1/2 mile of construction dirt). I played dumb gringo, they dialed up translation for "yellow" on their cell phones. Long story, but they started at $1,070 pesos (about $300 U.S.). This after grabbing my license and saying I could get it back in 5 days back in Mendoza after paying up. Then came the inevitable offer of a discount were we able to settle up there and then in cash. Bottom line, 100 pesos. All 3 of us were laughing when the guy took the bill and stuck it in his pocket. Lesson - there are cops in Argentina, they are crooked and you should carry cash.
