Churces are big thing on Chiloe. There are 15 or 20 that have been preserved. Chiloe was cutoff from the mainland until the mid1800s or so and as a result, things developed differently there (not unlike Kent Island...). Their religion had a black magic/ghost ship angle to it that all the tourism-types pump up a great deal. We didn't find much of it - struck us as more of something-other-than-fishing to help the govt. and Unesco justify propping up the island,
