This shrine is the oldest in Kyoto and one of the oldest in Japan, older than the founding of Kyoto. Built in 679 it is dedicated to the God of Thunder and one of 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. A wedding reception took also place. 70% of the Japanese weddings are christian style though, only a minority chooses civilian or like in this case traditional japanese Shinto style weddings.
