A mumu is the traditional way to prepare a feast in many parts of PNG. Basically, it is an oven made of hot stones and layers of banana leaves. Kau kau (sweet potato), taro (a root), corn, pig, chicken, aibika and choko (greens), sausages, cabbage, carrots and more are placed inside, covered with layers of banana leaves, more hot stones, and dirt. They are left to cook for the day. The food is plain, but very good. Add a little salt, and feast! You won't be hungry for days to come!
