The Xinjiang Provincial Museum houses one very famous mummy, the so-called Loulan Beauty, who lived in Xinjiang 3,800 years ago. DNA testing has shown she was clearly Europoid, looking like a European, and predating Chinese arrivals to the region by thousands of years. Unfortunately, the Loulan Beauty was not on display when we were visiting but the mummy shown here dates back from the same period and is also Europoid. She was found in the cemetery of Xiaohe.
