Rainwater that falls at the rim of Zion Canyon slowly makes its way through the permeable sandstone until it reaches a layer of impenetrable shale. The water then moves horizontally and seeps out of the canyon walls creating beautiful hanging gardens. A park ranger informed us that recent scientific testing has revealed that the water currently feeding these magnificent gardens began its journey at the top of the cliff above nearly 1200 years ago.

Oh my God! This is magnificent! Imagine, the water originated around 800 AD. Think of the memories this water holds of our history. Such wonderful photos. I would have played in the stream and looked at this micro-ecosystem all day and never hiked further. Keep sending the photos and narrations. They make my day.
