You could not get a knife between those stones. When the Spanish arrived, they knocked down all the temples which had been built using the art of the Incan stonemasons. On top of the temple of the sun in Cuzco, they built a church and covered the Incan temple in plaster so the locals could not worship false gods. When the next big earthquake came, the church fell down and the plaster too, revealing the ancient stonework underneath still intact.
