Grand rue and hotel de cabre: since the VI century the grand rue has been on of the busiest roads in the city. It provides access to main public health buildings and was used fr markets and shopping activities and by craftsmen. In February 1949, the occupation forces evacuated 25,000 inhabitants from the old port and bombed old areas destroying 1,924 buildings. only a few remarkable buildings were spared (this one) this building is a mix of gothic and renaissance styles built in the 1535 for a sheet merchant. during the reconstruction waor after the war it was moved as a single peice on jacks and rotated 90 degrees to perfectly match the new street layout.
