Swaddling band for infants, 17th century. LOVE IT! Also pictured, an infant's christening gown, often worn over the swaddling clothes. While the swaddling clothes helped protect the infant and keep him/her warm, it also held in lots of dirty diapers (yuck) so it was not the most hygienic of outfits. Fortunately, children stopped wearing it after about two months.
