It might not look like much, but the column in the middle is from the Temple of Artemis, built in 550 BC. It is considered to be one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World - and used to have 127 columns. The mosque to the left of the column was built in 1375. To the right of the column is the Basilica of St John. He visited Ephesus twice - once with the Virgin Mary between AD 37 and AD 48 again at the end of his life when he wrote his gospel on the hill you see in the back of the picture. The citadel that sits there now was constructed by the Byzantines in the 6th century AD. Did you get all this? There is some history in this picture ladies and gentlemen!
