Initially we dismissed your identification as Wikipaedia says most weevils are less than 6mm and this one was about 20mm long. However, having now done a bit of googling, we're going to agree with you as our beetle definitely has that weevily snout. What we cannot do is identify which of the 60,000 varieties it is! As for environment, it landed on our boat whilst we were in the marshes of Ibera. Our guide did say that in the past rice had been grown in the area, but other than that there are lots of marshy plants and lots of grassy stuff on land!
