The Medicis basically ruled Florence--and Tuscany--from the 1400s until the early 1700's. This is there former residence, now a museum. At night, when the windows are lit from within, I can just imagine them cocooned in their fortress, watching from on high as the rest of Firenze goes home from work. This palace contains the beautiful Chapel of the Magi, a tiny room so called because its walls are covered with a painting of the three kings. It's like stepping inside a jeweled Easter-egg--even the floor is inlaid with marble, and the ceiling is decorated with elaborate designs. There are beautifully carved wooden pews, more like seats since there's only one row (clearly, this chapel was intended for private use). I went here on my first evening in Firenze, after settling into my hotel. I couldn't take any photos, but if you use google I'm sure you can find a picture.
