Moroccan ceramics are famous for their quality and design, and it is easy to see why. In Fez we toured a ceramics factory where they made pots, tiles, tables, plates, tea sets, and witnessed how the clay was molded and prepared. After fashioning the clay, it enters a coal fed 1000 degree kiln. We saw the artisans drawing free-hand designs on the pottery, which is astounding considering my own trouble writing legibly. The coloring used for the wares are natural: henna (red), magnesium (blue), copper (yellow), and one more that I am forgetting (if anyone knows or remembers, I'll give you a cookie). My dream is to have a kitchen composed of Moroccan textiles some day.
