Grows wild in the Chinnar WLS along with sandalwood and several other deciduous species. The Chinnar sanctuary lies between Marayoor to the north of Munnar, and Amravathi in Tamil Nadu. There are prehistoric dolmens and rock paintings in the forest which you can see on guided treks, along with the Thoovanam horseshoe shaped falls. Book on site at Alampetti on the Marayur Udumalpet main road. Mornings and evenings on this road will yield definite sightings of elephants, langur, boar, bisons etc.
