Long a quiet fishing town, with limited onshore resources (very little water available), Saldanha bay has been slated for massive industrial development, starting with this steel mill. This is presumably not good news for the only extensive estuary in all of the South African coast which is just east of the massive, 4k long jetty the steel mill has built into the bay.
