They really do want their King to stay alive for a long time. Beside being a popular icon, there's a lot of doubt as to who will control the seat of power in Thailand when the King dies. No one trusts his son (who is thought of as a lazy good-for nothing), and the military are lurking. People fear that Thailand may go the same way as Myanmar once the King is dead...
