There is a long story behind these ancient sculptures. During those days The King of Konark used to worship God Surya, without concentrating on the sculptures, though it was already there in the Konark Temple. He, The King wanted to get rid of all "mayas"(any relationships) to please the GOD. According to the king the world is full of Mayas(different relationships) but among those things there stays one maya also- A divine maya which is a contact between God and Humans. Though there are also more myths about such, but something is special regarding such sculptures.
