Carved by Michelangelo late in his life and intended by him to be on his tomb (it isn't). Michelangelo includes himself in this work as the old man (Nicodemus) who helps Mary with Jesus' body. In the Renaissance style, the carving exhibits symmetry and balance. I'm always amazed at how Michelangelo could convey the lifeless heavy weight of the body in his work.
