Köln Cathedral
This is a top pick!
You can see this cathedral when you exit the train station (but not this view, as the comments below note). Cologne's German name is Köln. This cathedral has the largest facade of any church in the world - over 7000 sq meters! It took a mere 632 years to build.

From this point of view the train station is behind the cathedral. Visible is the Roncalliplatz with the Romano-Germanic Museum (Römisch-Germanisches Museum) on the right side. The two steeples which are not visible are on the left.
that's not the view you get when you walk out of the train station-you see the dual twin towers.
I have been to Koln several times by car AND train and this is not the view you see....coming out of the train station you can look up and see the back of the cathedral and it is to your right.
Whats it called
Yes this is a top pic
This cathedral is beautiful! Is it used for services any more? Must have a great pipe organ.
Love the pics; keep them coming. We know you'll have a wonderful time on this great trip. Actually, the hotel (with the lake) looked very nice. Food sounds good too. I remember stopping in Koln (sorry, I'm not sure how to type an "umlaut" over the o on this computer) back in October 2007. A large part of my family is from the Stutgart and Kirchheim am Techt area in Bayern.
Have a great trip; we'll check in on from time to time.
