In the foreground of this picture is the Chulitna River, which is fed by several glaciers on Mount McKinley. This is called a braided river because the water flows in braids over the silt. This is a very common type of river bed in glacial areas. There are several braided rivers similar to this in Denali National Park. If you look at this photo carefully, you will see the Chulitna River above the treeline and below the mountain, as it winds down from the base of Mount McKinley.
