He lives in Hanoi and An Nhien stayed with him just a few blocks from my hotel. Not very appropriate for a single girl to stay in the same hotel with her "single" male boss unaccompanied. This country is so modern but also very traditional in many ways. An Nhien is a modern educated young woman and could care less, but it was easier for some people's minds (and frankly cheaper for me) this way, though upon returning to Saigon, the housecook was still gossiping about us going "away together" and a local man stopped me to ask how my "trip with An Nhien" was. Ugh. Anyway, Uncle was a very sweet old guy.
