One morning we headed to the train station, took a 2 hour train ride to Hohenschwangau, a small village on the edge of the Austrian Alps, and took in what is probably the World's most beautiful castle, Neuschwanstein. It is an interesting monument to excess and indulgence and the inside is as magnificent as the outside with an amazing amount of wood carved furniture and ceilings... Afterwards we took a short hike into the Alps, which was King Ludwig's backyard... the gorge that the castle is built next to is immensely deep and impressive with a river ripping through the craggy mountains and around the pinnacle the castle is built on...
