Every bank, every successful store of any kind has a seriously armed guard in front of it. This makes the streets in this city full of these ¨vigilantes¨ There are at least 18,000 in the country and for the most part are unregulated, and poorly trained. Some are ex-military people, others just kids needing work. The minimum wage here is $.55 an hour. If not toting a shotgun, they have serious handguns like .38 or 45 caliber. Honestly, I don´t worrry so much about the bank robber gangs as much as these guys opening up. But as I said, in this crazy world, of Tegucigalpa, they offer a measure of comfort.
