I quite like this picture. Actually, I like it a lot. It's a picture of Seoul Tower from Namsan Park. The Tower is, at 236.7m high and 479.7m above sea level, the world's highest communication tower. It was built in 1975 and opened to the public in 1980. It has the usual tower features, namely 4 observation decks (one of which rotates), 2 non-rotating restaurant and tourist-trap gift shops. This picture was taken on a weekend break from Camp Korea teaching duties, a weekend that, while still very hot, the rains, mercifully, held off. It was a good weekend to be in town as the city was in the midst of Korean Independence Day (August 15th) celebrations, celebrations we got up close and personal with having stumbled into a city centre park full of elderly celebrants dancing and downing soju by the bucket load. We had to join in, if only for a short period of time. More on that later. Seoul, South Korea. August 14th, 2004
