These are the 7 meter thick walls of what is thought to be King David's palace. It is located on the cliff of the City of David. The entire city was only 12 acres when originally built. The Jebusite city was conquered by David in the 10th century BC when he climbed up the Canaanite water shafts into the city. David built his palace after conquering the city. II Samuel 5:8: On that day, David said, "Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those 'lame and blind' who are David's enemies." That is why they say, "The 'blind and lame' will not enter the palace."
