You could eat the banana leaf part if you wanted to, but it's really tough and doesn't taste so good, so I wouldn't want to! I didn't know that the first time I ate this though, and the guy who sold it to me laughed at me when I tried to eat it :)

Hi there.. I just found this conversation amusing so I thought I should try to explain that the rice was wrapped with banana leaf to add fragrance to the rice and nothing else :).. Here in Malaysia we use all kinds of fragrant (but inedible) leaves to add flavour to our cooking e.g. pandan leaf, banana leaf, limau purut leaf (a kind of super fragrant lime) etc2.. hope you enjoyed your time in Malaysia though :)
