Hello,

These underwater photos are wonderful, it is difficult to get pictures that really show how wonderful it is being `down-under`. Where did you take these incredible shots of the coral? I am going to Ishigaki, Taketomi and Iriomote in July and will be doing lots of snorkeling (I hope the weather and conditions cooperate!).

thanks jazie. we took these photos on one of the more famous the beaches on the north side of Ishigaki, sorry i can't remember the name. the tide goes out quite a long way and unfortunately due to global warming a lot of the coral nearest to the beach is dead so you need boots to walk over it to get to the live coral still under water. we just swam around in this area and took all these photos. the beaches were deserted. Ishigaki is a great place, I recommend staying with Gon at http://iriwa.org/ on the north west side of the island. It's a small family run place not in the guidebooks but Gon (who is Korean) speaks good english and can tell you where to go and what to do and it's much better than the city part of the island.

we didn't go to taketomi. iriomote is a little bit over-rated in my view but still worth a visit and a trip on the river etc. stay on the beach if you can or at the place we stayed at where they did tours etc. see the blog entry for what you can do. the tour was very good.

enjoy okinawa, outside of naha it's a great place that so few people seem to go to
