you can't see it from here but there is an irrigation system that makes tiny little waterfalls on each step of the terraces. you also can't see the groups of ducks waddling around in the paddies. there's plenty of food in there for them between the frogs and the little eels and all the bugs. the ducks here are so cute; there are some that are all brown and some that are all black, including bill and feet. working the rice paddies is a hard, hard job and the farmers almost never own the land they work. it's hard already when the paddy is just stretched out one plane, i can't imagine how hard it must be to take care of terraces like this that are on so many different levels.
