Have I mentioned these guys? They are all over the place in Nelson. I call them scorpion spiders because of their beefy front legs that remind me of scorpion claws. The scary thing is how aware these spiders are. If you move toward them, they orient their scorpion arms towards you. It took me a while to kill this one because he kept dodging the wadded up tea towel I was throwing at him. It's hard to kill (or take pictures of) these guys because usually, in the time it takes me to grab something to get them with, they've taken cover, probably watching me, decided if they should strike or not.

No, they shouldn't be poisonous. The white tail and the red back spiders are the only dangerous creatures in NZ.

I had one of these in my bedroom this morning! So scared to go back in even though its been taken out now, are they very poisonous because we had some in the bathroom too.
