To make it easier it get around, the Ring Road stops following the in-and-out of driving through the fjord land and goes through a very long tunnel to come out in the northern interior. This area is knows as the Icelandic Desert. It really looks like parts of south-central Wyoming. All rocks and not much else. Parts of it look like the moon--so much volcanic ash and just as barren as barren can be. We didn't stop to take pictures. It was so hard to capture because it was relatively featureless and the impressive part was just that really, really wide expanse of nothingness.
