Sanam Luang is a sort of Royal park, a large quadrangle north of the Grand Palace which has been paved over with cement so that only the odd week peeks through. Despite this bleak description, this field is occasionally used for Royal ceremonies and festivals, but at other times it is host to massive, highly competitive kite flying competitions.
