Treasures of Angkor Wat and VietNam
About this blog
My friend Jeanne and I were originally going on this trip in Feb of 2008 but a little thing called an economic slowdown interfered. So, finally, we're heading out- only 2 years later.
The tour is sponsored by Smithsonian, but packaged by Collette Vacations. Here's how they describe it:
"This exciting journey through Southeast Asia showcases the fascinating history, culture, and artistic treasures of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Explore glorious cities, from Thailand's vibrant Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia's gateway to the temple complex of Angkor, and from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Discover early empires, enchanting landscapes and friendly people. On this 16 day tour, you'll visit one of the most spectacular architectural achievements in the world, Angkor Wat. Gain an understanding of the ancient Khmer Empire during your full day visit. Throughout this wondrous region, your journey is enhanced by guided tours, expert lead discussions and leisure time to explore on your own."
We're tacking on a 2-night post-tour in Hong Kong that should really be the icing on this fabulous trip.
I've prepared myself by reading diverse books on Cambodia and VietNam. And my "Vietnamese sister", Kim, at work has introduced me to the pleasures of Phở. Colorful visas in my passport, all packed and ready to go!
