The Curry Scurry: India in a week

About this blog

I've always wanted to see the Taj Mahal, so when I found the right price, I bought the tickets. (I will leave out what I had to do to talk Kim into going with me.) We will be on a tour the whole time, as we travel the Golden Triangle: New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur. Since making the reservations, I've been doing my homework. Here are some of the fascinating facts about India that caught my attention. The country has been independent since the mid-1900's. Buddhism was born there centuries ago. One-third of all the world's poverty is in India. It appears that the button was invented in the Indus Valley in 2000BC, and the toe stirrup was also first used in the region in 500BC. However, none of these fun facts impressed me as much as the information I read when I was trying to find a "type D" electrical plug adapter to use in India: "Type D plugs are among the most dangerous ones in the world: the prongs are not insulated which means that if a type D plug is pulled halfway out, its prongs are still connected to the socket! Little children run the risk of electrocuting themselves when pulling such a plug out and putting their fingers around it." Not sure why they singled out little children for the warning, but I will be minding my fingers!
