Stepping Into Vietnam 2010
About this blog
This trip to Vietnam marked my first backpacking experience. My friendship with many Vietnamese friends in Australia is the turning point of my interest in Vietnam. Many whom today after escaping persecution from the communists in the late 70s and early 80s, could not return to their motherland for fear of persecution. And their fears are real. I am sure the communist apologists will say otherwise.
The plan was originally only a short trip to Ho Chi Minh City but gradually expanded as my interest in many Vietnamese cities grew. The most rewarding experiences I had gained from this 22 days travel were the street foods, the majestic natural landscapes and the first hand war stories and feelings from the remaining vietnamese people.
The great bit of the trip was that it started during the Tet Lunar New Year and the entire country was on the move. Accommodation and transportation were overwhelmed but the atmosphere was electric. In fact everything in Vietnam was overwhelming, from the local culture to the landscapes both political and natural.
When in Vietnam, you step out of your comfort zone. I did and I enjoyed it. So come on and step out!
