ISLA PARADISO: Discovering the Dominican Republic
About this blog
Columbus discovered the island of Hispaniola (La Isla Espanola) during his famous voyage in 1492. Spain's first permanent settlement in the New World was established on its southern coast, at the present site of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. We are going to start in Santo Domingo, visit the highlands for some adventure activities in Jarabacoa, proceed to Samana Bay to do some whalewatching, and conclude with some relaxing beach time in Puerto Plata. Christopher Columbus wrote in his journal that Hispaniola is "a beautiful island paradise." We are going to see if it is still true today. A bonus stop in Ft. Lauderdale begins the adventure! Let's go!
