About this blog

Good evening you crazy beautiful people! Here's an introductory chapter of sorts:

This travel blog will cover my exploits in the States, starting and ending in New York City, and in the interim taking me to God knows where. Who knows where I'll end up, what wonderful people I will meet and how many nut jobs I will encounter? I'm hoping on a healthy mix of the unexpected and the bizarre.

I have about three weeks to go now before I take off, and now that I have dealt with most of the formalities (ESTA, travel and health coverage, guides and highway maps), I guess this is the point where I can concentrate on what I want to do and see during my travels.

Naturally, NY's rich immigrant history is at least near the top of my list, so Ellis Island is a definite YES. I will no doubt be doing a lot of walking as well, with the intent of covering as much ground as is physically possible, because I believe that is how one really gets to know and feel a city... breathing in the sweat and smell from its very pores. That probably includes getting more physical than I dare to mention here now, but more on that later. Mind you, my dear mother and father are reading this too, and I don't want to break their hearts.

After about a week, all weary from my fooling around in NYC, I will drive to as yet unspecified areas in the New England region. Part of the plan is to at least check out Boston and Harvard University where I will hopefully meet an old friend. After that, it's NYC again and St. Paddy's day before I head back to ol' Holland, no doubt covered in ivy leafs and with the smell of stale Guinness penetrating the plane on the flight back home.

I hope you lot will accompany me on my little journey, let's have a laugh shall we?
