To Guatemala, Chiapas and the Yucatan ... our adventures in the homeland of the Mayans

About this blog

Nat and I travelled to the homelands of the Mayan people during the winter of 2007. The trip began in Guatemala where we joined a 16-member Habitat for Humanity team to build houses for 2 families in a little town called El Estor on Lago de Izabal, inland from the Caribbean coast. Afterwards, we checked out life on the Caribbean and then headed north to visit the Mayan ruins at Tikal. The plan was to then make our way to the Yucatan via Belize and loop back down through Chiapas to re-enter Guatemala from the west. We ended up adjusting the plan quite significantly however, opting to spend most of our time in Guatemala, and entering Mexico via Chiapas for the last 2 weeks of the trip.

We hope that you enjoy following us...
