Big art, spicy chiles, pueblos, and desertscapes in New Mexico
About this blog
I thought I was heading south from frigid northern Ontario to the south and sun. Sun I did get but not quite with the heat that I had hoped for. "Why New Mexico?" was the most popular question directed at me. My love of good food, the colours of the southwest, and big art had made New Mexico on my travel wish list.
My first goal in Albuquerque, given the paucity of anything edible offered on planes nowadays, was food. I drove down Route 66 past an almost third-worldish restaurant called Garcia's. I decided to jump in with both feet, ordering their chile. This is not a stew of meat and beans with a bit of spice but a large bowl of chopped up hot chili peppers. This was the introduction to life in New Mexico--spicy!
