Fiona [Melbourne] and Peta [Stratford-upon-Avon] ("the girls") wanted to go to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda and try some camping on safari in Tanzania...if I would come along.

It had been 14 years since I did any of the 'northern circuit' in Tanzania; 4 years, since my prior gorilla trekking in Uganda [and Rwanda].

I had never been to Zanzibar before so Gap's 'East Africa Overland' fit the bill.
