About this blog

This trip came about, as many others have, with plans falling through. It was supposed to be a couple of months in a warm place to avoid the worst of another -30C Balkan winter, and instead will become a 7-8 month exploration of a totally different part of the world. I love it when my plans fall through.

I have it vaguely in mind to spend time in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zanzibar, and Madagascar. We'll see what actually happens!

One note about the "Support My Travels" button up there. I'm not looking for support for myself. While travelling, I give small donations of cash or locally-bought goods to local charities (usually education, animal welfare / rehabilitation, environmental protection, or entrepreneurship, especially for women). If you'd like to pitch in, I'll add your donation, with a shout-out and a photo of the recipients wherever possible.
