About this blog

November 26 - I will hit the ground running as soon as I arrive in Cusco. I'll jump into a car for an hour long drive to the Sacred Valley and a private full day tour of the Pisac Ruins, Market and Ollantaytambo. I'll spend the next day relaxing and acclimating at the Posada del Inca Yucay which is a converted 18th century colonial style monastery.

November 28 - I'll make my first visit to Machu Picchu. I'll stay overnight in Aguas Calientas (the town of Machu Picchu) and go back to Machu Picchu for a second visit on Monday.

November 29 - Back to Cusco for three nights. Plans for Tuesday include a tour of the historical sites in Cusco and excursions to several nearby Inca ruins. Wednesday is a free day to explore the city.

December 2 - To the airport in the morning for a short plane ride to Puerto Maldonado where I will hike a 3km trail to a waiting canoe. After navigating narrow canals through amazon rainforest, we will cross Lake Sandoval to the hilltop Sandoval Lake Lodge. My two days at the Lodge will include guided hikes into the forest and early morning/dusk boating excursions in search of various species of monkeys, birds and reptiles.

December 4 - From Puerto Maldonado, I make my way south to Puno via a one-night stop over in Cusco. I'll stay Sunday and Monday nights in Puno. One of my days there will be spent on a boat trip on Lake Titicaca with visits to Taquile Island and the floating reed islands of Uros.

December 7 - The final leg of my trip will be spent in Lima. After a half-day Lima City tour on Wednesday, December 8th, I will spend the next three days on my own drinking in the modern and colonial architecture, the cuisine, and the many museums that Lima has to offer...right up to midnight on Saturday, December 11th when I must board my flight back to the states.
