91st anniversary of the Gallipoli landings
About this blog
My wife and I travelled from Sydney to Turkey in April 2006 to commemorate Anzac Day at Anzac Cove. We had a four-day stopover at the Tanjung Rhu Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia (fabulous - beautiful beach/sunsets, great food, great service) before meeting up with my wife's work colleagues for the flight to Turkey. Istanbul is an amazing city - East meets West, with every shade in between. We stayed at the Ceylan Intercontinental (magnificent), shopped in the Grand Bazaar, visited the Blue Mosque, ate at local restaurants and topped off the two day sojourn with a cruise down the Bosphurus. Then it was on to Gallipoli, where we spent a night huddled round a fire before rising at 4am to walk the 2km to a very moving Anzac Day ceremony.
