At the time of writing, I was a 21 year old Southern Californian film student who had never done much of any traveling, let alone overseas, before summer '08. Since it was to be the last "summer as kids know summers" of my life before graduation & real life setting in, I decided I had to do something epic that post-school life might not offer me the opportunity to do. So, in March of that year I set up a 2 month volunteer stint with VSN Nepal where I served as a mentor/big brother type in a local orphanage. Six weeks of backpacking around lower SE Asia would follow until finally returning home.
