Antarctica, the highest, driest, coldest place on Earth (with a sunny ending on the beaches of New Zealand).
About this blog
These are the stories, photos, and videos of my 2007 field season in Antarctica studying Weddell seals. I will arrive in Christchurch, New Zealand on Oct 1, 2007 where I will be given Extreme Cold Weather (ECW) clothing. As soon as weather permits, I will make the journey to McMurdo Research Station where I will spend 8 days preparing for field work. We (the 6-person team I am working with) will be tagging, observing, and collecting tissue samples from Weddell seals during the 2.5 months we spend on the ice. This will be spring and summer in Antarctica when female seals will be hauling out on the ice to give birth to a new generation of highly evolved individuals. I will finish the trip traveling the south island of NZ with Lee. Enjoy!!
