About this blog

No set plans for this adventure. Left my job on March 08 2013, just need a change and want to see the states. So on Sunday morning March 17 (had to push back the leave date due to car repairs and the amount of time it took me to fix the issues.), I will be tossing my dog(Erwin) in the car and heading out to see what we can find! Looking to hike, backpack the 48 states. Looking to check out areas, find a new place to call home - after this adventure ends. Guess that will also be a good time to find a job.......would be nice to some day have a large comfy bed to sleep in again, at some point :) I do have a good amount of must hike areas but am also looking for local areas to hike also, so if you have a favorite/must hike areas, leave us a message, let us know about it! Of course, must be dog friendly.

Erwin has around 1,300 backpacking miles on him, he has hiked in everything from sub-freezing up to 100 plus degree heat and hiked flat land ground to night-hiking the cliff covered mountains in the Adirondacks. Erwin is around 9 years old, not 100% sure, adopted him while Thru-hiking the A.T.. Erwin has hiked from Tennessee to Maryland, in Cutler Bay Maine, New Jersey, New York, he has done a few trips in the Adirondacks and countless local areas in Maryland.

I Thru-hiked the A.T. back in 2008, was a great experience, met a lot of awesome people, was great seeing the small towns, learning about the people/families and their towns history (Erwin Tennessee hung an elephant by using a train and some heavy duty chains ........ because the elephant killed a child during a stampede.......crazy!!!). I have hiked pretty much up and down the East coast area, now I want to see everything West of the East coast :)

Hope you enjoy the blog and will try to keep updates current, depending what area we are hiking or backpacking, it could be a week or so sometimes, just depends on reception, battery life and all that good stuff! If you notice I'm in your area and want to hike, like I said earlier, leave a message.

Also, I am more than happy to work, in trade for being able to use your washer/dryer, a place to crash for the night (even if it is tossing my tent up in your back yard or sleeping above your horse stalls in a pile of hay - which is actually comfortable....wouldn't be our first time crashed out in a barn!) , or whatever we can barter.

Hope to see you out there, - Keep Calm And Chive On! - Rick
