Cape York, after 20 years of planning, we are coming
About this blog
Just a little bit of background information first, Back in 1993, we were visiting Airlie Beach staying in one of the many caravan parks they have there. We came back from a day tour sailing the Whitsundays and stopped to say hello to a couple ( Frank and Marion )who were obviously foreign tourists. We learned that they came from Germany and have been travelling in Oz for the last 11 months or so. We were very interested in their mode of transport, a commercial van with a mattress in the back, 2 banana boxes for their clothes, 1 burner stove and a cooler box. Seems that was adequate enough for them. We spend a lovely evening with them and they joined Rick and I on a sail to Whitehaven Beach the next day. We spoke a little bit about a trip to Cape York together but could not do it there and then. We have kept in contact with over the next 20 years. Frank and Marion revisited us in 1999/2000 and we went to visit them on our travels in 2011 and 2012. Cape York was always our talking point and we promised each other once again , that we would do the trip one day. So early this year the good news came that our dear friends were visiting OZ once more and this time we would go to Cape York. OK we said, but are all now a little bit older and an organised tour would be the answer. Booked a 5 day trip to the Cape. So let our story begin. After 20 years planning we are finally going.
